Walk around your home and observe both the interior and exterior.

Think about the following questions:

  1. Is your home cool enough in warm months? Warm enough in cool months?
  2. Walk through inside and outside of home. What building materials do you think will best maintain desired temp? What materials allow for a lot of heat transfer? Are there areas of your home that allow outside air to pass between inside and outside of home? Does your home have insulation? Etc.

  3. Speak to the adults in your home. Work with them to estimate: what percentage of household income is devoted to heating and cooling?

Take 2-3 photos of parts of your home that you think affect temperature (windows, walls, roof, doors, gaps, etc.).

After completing this observation:
Go to “Assignment - Home Energy Assessment” and submit your answers and photos.
